A Day at the Ranch
There is no "typical" day at Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch. Your ranch vacation is just that - YOUR ranch vacation. You tell us how you will spend your days here.
At Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch we treat you like one of the family. Pitch in all you want and help us feed and care for the horses, hone your roping skills while you are waiting for dinner, or join us in other ranch chores.
Or, sit back and let us do all of the work. You will find solitude as well as adventure on your visit. This is a great opportunity to kick back and enjoy life on a different level.
Whether on horseback or in hiking boots, you will enjoy some of the most beautiful, unspoiled country in America. Ride the outlaw trails of Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Visit Native ruins from the early Mimbres (750-1150AD) which remain essentially untouched. Explore the canyons which sheltered the Apache warrior Geronimo during his campaigns in the late 1800's.
Our riding and hiking will take you through gorgeous tall Ponderosa pine forests with an abundance of wildlife, up on high hills where the views go on forever across the 3.3 million acre National Forest, down into deep canyons with sheer cliffs and crystal clear streams running through them and across lush meadows (often with herds of elk!). The trails start at our backdoor and we have millions of acres to discover. This is not nose to tail riding but a real western adventure. You won't find better riding anywhere!
We have very gentle, trustworthy horses that allow children and adults alike to build confidence in their riding skills and enjoy the magnificent scenery here on horseback. We play rodeo games and can teach you to twirl and throw a lariat rope.
You will have a unique opportunity to discover the history of our region as we hike and ride over the same trails as the early Mimbres (750-1150AD), Geronimo and Billy the Kid. Along the way you will visit the border of Old Mexico, see Native American rock paintings, climb into dwellings over 1000 years old and hold actual pieces of Mimbres pottery in your hands.
Our cabins, which are nestled in the pines are large but cozy with fireplaces, queen sized beds (and bunk beds), covered porches, full bath/shower, sitting area with table and chairs, magazines and books, coffee maker, snacks and a cookie jar filled with homemade goodies. They are comfortably furnished in a Native American style or a Cowboy motif, and you will have a cabin to yourself - we don't mix groups.
Our meals are taken in the dining room or outside on our picnic tables. Some of our popular dishes include Ribeye steaks, grilled salmon or trout, pork tenderloin, garden fresh vegetables, New Mexican scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes with fruit, and chocolate mousse (and other incredible desserts!). We get many compliments on our fine dining and we can satisfy any dietary needs.
No lines or schedules here. Other activities that our guests enjoy are: big campfires at night with s' mores and fantastic stargazing, western entertainment, music and dancing in our Rec Hall, sing-a-longs, indoor and outdoor games, fishing, photography, horseback riding lessons or just reading a good book on one of our many bench swings.
