Frequently Asked Questions

What will the weather be like during my stay?
We are at 6700 feet elevation and enjoy very temperate weather year-round.
Below is a map of temperature averages throughout the year as well as the current conditions for Winston, NM.

What is your check-in/check out policy?
Check-In time is 4:00 PM. Check-Out Time is Noon. We sometimes take a short morning hike or ride on the day of your departure.

What is the nearest airport?
The two airports that our guests use are El Paso, TX and Albuquerque, NM which are equal distance from our ranch (4 hour drive).  Both airports are small and convenient to get around.  We would suggest the one that fits your travel needs best.

Will I have my own bathroom?
Yes! Each cabin is equipped with its own private shower and bath. We do not mix groups within cabins.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?
Yes! Please let us know about any special dietary requirements you have. The food we serve is extremely varied and our cooks are willing to prepare special dishes.

Do you offer a babysitting service?
We don't get many children under the age of three because we don't have babysitting services, cribs, etc.  If you are traveling in a car then of course you could bring whatever you need and our chef, Lori, is available for babysitting a few hours a day at an additioal charge so you could go riding or hiking without the children.

Will there be a telephone available?
There are no telephones or internet connections in the guesthouses.  However, guests have access to a telephone if necessary. International visitors should bring a phone card to place international calls.

Will I have air conditioning/heat?
Our summer temperatures are generally pleasant; and air conditioning is not needed. In the winter months, every cabin is equipped with a fireplace heater.

Can I bring my pet?
We love animals, and have pets of our own.  However, your pets are not allowed at the Ranch for safety reasons.  We can recommend a convenient veterinarian boarding kennel in Truth or Consequences.

Can I bring my own tack?
Yes - We want you to be comfortable.  Guests are welcome to bring their own saddle, saddle bags, cantle bags or other cowboy gear. Our wranglers will inspect your gear before you ride out to ensure it fits our horses correctly. Your items can be shipped via UPS or US Postal Service in advance of your visit (keep in mind that the regular mail only comes to our ranch on Tuesdays and Fridays each week).

Do you offer a non-rider rate?
Geronimo Trail does offer a special "non rider" rate for family members or friends who prefer not to horseback ride.  Please contact us for more information.

Do you serve alcohol?
Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch is not licensed to serve alcoholic beverages; however, you are invited to bring your own spirits and alcohol and serve yourself.

Will I feel at home if I come as a single?
Yes! Many of our guests are single people and they usually make friends quickly at the ranch.  Those who come here often have much in common with one another and a love of horses is a great ice breaker.

If I am not a very experienced rider, is this the right place for me?
Yes! We have very gentle and trustworthy horses and can accommodate all levels of riders. Anyone who likes horses and wants to improve riding skills is most welcome and should feel right at home here.

If I have a spouse or friend who is not particularly interested in riding, will they be happy at Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch?
People who are interested in hiking, fishing, or just reading and relaxing in beautiful country will enjoy themselves.  Our location is quite remote so if they want many opportunities for shopping, tennis courts and heated swimming pools they will be disappointed. However, if they are looking for serenity and solitude they will find our ranch to be a very special place.

I have younger children who will not ride all day.
Will they enjoy themselves?
The wranglers will take them on short rides, and we have three miniature horses that love to be brushed and also pull a wagon for rides down to the lake. Most children really enjoy the foals, dogs and the many other animals and birds we have here.  They also enjoy the sense of freedom and ability to wander anywhere without danger of traffic or strange people. Other activities children enjoy include fishing, hiking, treasure and scavenger hunts, storytelling, campfires and other family style games.
